This is the number one problem we see in outdoor air conditioning units.
Leaks tend to be very common in an air conditioner and having your unit checked yearly is always the way to go.
Yearly chemical cleaning of coil and outdoor condenser can prevent clogging of these components and freezing up the air conditioning system.
If your outdoor cooling fan goes bad then the freon inside of the condenser freezes up and will cause the system to stop working.
If the compressor goes bad the whole air conditioning system goes down. Compressor replacement is normally only done if it is still under warranty because the cost of replacement is nearly as much as a whole new outdoor condenser unit.
